Interior door size: how to measure an opening for an 820 × 2100 mm door
CONTI internal doors measure 35 × 820 × 2100 mm (thickness × width × height). The door hangs in a frame with outer dimensions of 907 × 2147 mm and a 50 × 140 mm profile, and the joint to the wall is covered by an 18 × 60 mm architrave with outer dimensions of 967 × 2177 mm.
Three sizes to know
When you buy a ready-to-install door, three components have related sizes: the door leaf, the frame and the architrave. At CONTI, all three are made to work together.
| Component | CONTI size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Door leaf | 35 × 820 × 2100 mm | Thickness × width × height. The same for the Roma and Madrid Series. |
| Frame | 50 × 140 × 907 × 2147 mm | 50 × 140 mm profile, outer size 907 × 2147 mm. Solid, painted. |
| Architrave | 18 × 60 × 967 × 2177 mm | 18 × 60 mm profile, outer size 967 × 2177 mm. Solid, painted. |
The figures show that the frame takes the overall width from 820 mm to 907 mm, and the architrave covers the left and right sides to an outer width of 967 mm.
How to measure the wall opening
CONTI doors cannot be cut down or made to order, so it is the wall opening that needs to fit. Before ordering:
- Measure the width at three points: top, middle and bottom of the opening. Note the smallest figure.
- Measure the height at two points: left and right, from the finished floor to the top of the opening. Note the smallest figure.
- Make sure the floor is finished. If tiles or parquet are not yet laid, the opening height will change.
- Check it is plumb with a spirit level. An opening that leans makes it hard for the door to close cleanly.
- Measure the wall thickness and compare it with the 140 mm frame profile.
Compare your figures with the frame's outer size of 907 × 2147 mm. Installers usually leave a fitting gap around the frame; agree the size of that gap with your installer or the CONTI team.
What if the opening does not fit?
In renovations, existing openings are often smaller or larger than the frame. A slightly larger opening can be made good when the frame is fitted, while one that is too small will need to be cut back. Send photos and measurements to our team before you buy so we can check them with you.
If your home needs a non-standard size, such as a taller or wider door, WiraDoor makes custom doors.
Why a standard size helps
With one size for every door, openings can be prepared during construction. You can also change door design later, for example from Madrid to Roma, without changing the frame.
